History - How it all started...
In 1999, BMW France and BMW Belgium began the Boxer Cup - an exciting motorcycle street event with the BMW
R 1100 S held on tradition-rich racing courses. The full sound of the two cylinder engines and the athletic qualities of the boxer machines thrilled participants and spectators alike.
Renowned riders and VIP guest riders, including Randy Mamola, Luca Cadalora, Jürgen Fuchs, Stéphane Mertens and Jorge Martinez have all contributed to fascinating competitions and great sporting excitement.
The individual races were transmitted by Eurosport and viewers all over the world were able to follow the motorsports premier of the BMW
R 1100 S. BMW AG, who had simultaneously entered the Moto Grand Prix with its safety car fleet, in parallel with the BMW
R 1100 S motorcycles, performed the co-ordination for this race. The great success of the racing series in France and Belgium is what motivated BMW to call into being the International BoxerCup, which will this year take place over eight action-packed heats.
