1999: The record year The 20th century ends for BMW with a new record: 65,186 machines are supplied to customers worldwide. BMW can thus look back on a growth of new registrations for the 10th year in succession. However, the new record does not last long: in the "millennium year" of 2000, BMW delivers 74,614 vehicles. The USA is the most important international market for BMW. Acknowledgement of the significance of Berlin as a production location: the move of the assembly of the single-cylinder machines to the mother plant in Berlin-Spandau is synchronised with the launch of the newly developed Funduro F 650 GS. One of the most important reasons given by BMW is the more sophisticated technology of the new model. The special equipment features are particularly significant - such as the exclusive ABS. |
