1997-98: The new models

1997: With the R 1200 C - the BMW amongst cruiser bikes - the route becomes the destination. It is not a copy of American role models but has a distinctive design and is the BMW interpretation of the cruiser theme - also with a capacity of 850 ccm. The model variations Advantgarde and Independent then follow. The K 1200 RS is the dream machine for sporty riders. With 130 bhp, it is the first BMW to break through the 100 bhp barrier - once a self-imposed constraint of German motorcycle manufacturers and importers.
1998: the R 1100 S - the sportiest boxer. To be precise, the R 1100 S is virtually a new version of the legendary R 90 S. Reduced to a core statement and yet equipped with tourer talents, the R 1100 S rides instantly into the hearts of boxer fans. Powerful and muscular, it becomes the perfect partner for sporty oriented BMW friends. The optionally available sports chassis even allows racing ambitions to come to the fore. The sporty potential of the R 1100 S comes into its own in the BoxerCup. The K 1200 LT - the luxury tourer. With this machine, BMW defines the measure of all things. Trim features formed in the wind tunnel are harmonised with practical technical control elements. The LT is rounded off with all available comfort. The excellent chassis with ABS as standard ensures excellent handling of this 378 kg luxury tourer.
