BMW models set new standards

With the growing motorcycle fever in the seventies, BMW motorcycle production figures increase rapidly again. From the /5 Series onwards, the models with the blue and white propeller on their fuel tank are now larger, more powerful and faster. Two BMW models of this period will particularly go down as milestones in motorcycle history. The R 90 S: 1973-76, 898 ccm, 67 bhp.
For the first time, BMW exceeds its existing capacity limit of 750 ccm - maintained for 50 years. Due to its sporty charisma with the world's first standardcockpit trim and a fascinating special effect paint finish, the R 90 S was and is still regarded as a design icon in motorcycle construction. R 100 RS: 1976-84, 980 ccm, 70 bhp.
With the 100 RS, BMW build the first motorcycle in the world with full fairing. The development of this focused primarily both on aerodynamic considerations and on the protection of the rider from wind and weather. At the same time, the R 100 RS is first BMW with 1 litre capacity. With this model, BMW thus establishes the category of the sporty touring bikes - a segment in which BMW sets standards to this day.
