1954: Involvement in motor racing

In 1954, the legendary BMW RS model with vertical shaft drive is produced in small series for motor racing. This model achieves 200 kph and provides private motorcyclists with many victories on race tracks at home and abroad. The three-wheel models also gain sporting honours. In 1954, BMW starts to win world championships for motorcycle/sidecar combinations. 19 rider world championship titles are won up to 1974, and between 1955 and 1974 all brand world championships go to BMW.
