The fundamental principles of the BMW motorcycle The clever Swabian Max Friz manages to fit together known and existing components to form a new harmonious motorcycle concept: the two cylinders are no longer positioned longitudinally, as is the case with other manufacturers, but are now placed transversely to the direction of travel and thus more effectively cooled by the wind blast. The gearbox is fitted directly onto the engine and is now driven directly by the longitudinally mounted crankshaft. Instead of the usual chain drive, the shaft drive takes on the task of direct transmission of the engine power to the rear wheel in the first BMW. These three components as the fundamental concept of the BMW boxer have proved effective for over 75 years and are used in the current "boxer" series. |
