Over 100 years of documentation

If one includes the early carriage construction in Eisenach, BMW history now extends over approximately 100 years. The BMW Group Archive is the memory and soul of everything associated with the history of the Bavarian Motor Works. Its core responsibilities lie in the seamless collection, appropriate preservation, systematic ordering, transparent presentation and academic evaluation of all documents which are of importance to the history of the company and its products. Currently, the BMW Group Archive has space for some 200,000 pictures, 4,000 advertising brochures from 1900 - 2001, 2,000 owner's manuals and approximately 50 metres of historical supply manuals. The library holds over 2,000 volumes and a large number of international special journals. Extensive files, all kinds of workshop literature and an increasing quantity of modern information media such as microfiches and CD-ROM are also a part of the constantly growing stocks. Whether well-researched talks with friends of the brand are required or support for specialist journalists and historians: in spite of the growing use of modern communication media, the personal style of the BMW Group Archive is preserved as a contact partner for all those who are interested in BMW history. The owners of vintage BMW motorcycles (up to year of construction 1976) can contact the BMW Group Archive directly. Simply click on "Contact".
