A new start with a big name

After the end of the Second World War, it was not until the beginning of the fifties that BMW once again became involved in off-road motorcycle racing. Georg and Hans Meier, Walter Zeller and the duos Ludwig Kraus / Bernhard Huser and Max Klankermeier / Hermann Wolz: it was the first generation of BMW riders who had already run road racing championships and were not afraid to measure up to the competition away from asphalted roads. These legendary names won countless medals in national and international competitions, both on the 250 cc single cylinder models and on the 500 and 600 cc flat twin “boxers”. Thanks to these successes in off-road racing, BMW was able to strengthen its reputation as a sporty brand.
