From 1994: the four-valve GS

In 1994, the R 1100 GS appeared, the first enduro with the four-valve engine which had been introduced the previous year. With this imposing model, BMW once again set the standard in the enduro segment and took up a leading position in numerous countries in terms of annual registration statistics. Thanks to the innovative chassis and the high-powered and high-torque engine, the R 100 GS also offered outstandingly easy handling off-road, as well as excellent touring qualities on the road. The successor model R 1150 was also able to perpetuate the success story of the BMW travel enduros, as did the current R 1200 GS and the R 1150 GS Adventure, which was specially conceived for travel in faraway countries. As of autumn 2005, off-road racing enthusiasts will be pleased to find the purist HP2 Enduro in the BMW program - a bike they can truly call their own.
