| Visitors to the 2nd International BMW Motorrad Biker Meeting experienced a truly fascinating programme, with everything from A for adventure to Z for Zugspitze and complete with slide-shows, parties, campfires, music, shows and - of course - thousands and thousands of motorcycles. Two-wheeled thrills came in the form of the daredevil motorcycle stunts of Jean-Pierre Goy, the world-famous body double for James Bond. Extreme experiences of another kind on BMW motorcycles were supplied by Michael Martin: this outstanding photographer dazzled his audience with his slide-show of African deserts and took them on an expedition through Bolivia with the new R 1150 GS Adventure. Scores of motorcycle fans took part in the guided half- or full-day tours through the foothills of the Alps, or drew their inspiration from a free Roadbook and embarked on outings of their own. They were also invited to have a test ride on a range of BMW motorcycles, for example the new F 650 CS Scarver, and had the chance to demonstrate their riding skills on the obstacle course. The professional instructors from BMW Motorrad's rider training courses were also on hand to give handy hints for mastering motorcycles, and showed people how to attain the perfect ABS braking technique. And that wasn't all. Everyone enjoyed live music on all three days of the event. At the opening party on Friday evening, people got together with old and new friends alike in the Biker Tent and planned the days ahead. Dancing, fun, a great live band and surprise guests were guaranteed at Saturday evening's Biker Party. And for those who preferred to take it a little easier, the lounge tent next door offered the right atmosphere, plus a wide range of catering choices. And, to round it all off, nobody missed the motorcycle cavalcade on Saturday or the religious service on Sunday, which was followed by a blessing of the motorcycles. This year, the trip to the Biker Meeting was at the same time a journey into the past: 2002 saw the first vintage bike meeting for riders and fans of classic BMW motorcycles at the event. The most impressive vintage BMW motorcycles received prizes as part of the big Biker Party, and at noon on Sunday, the weekend was crowned by a classic motorcycle parade through Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We're looking forward to seeing you again next year. |
